Learn More About Different VMs Provided by AWS, Azure and Google Cloud.

In the world of cloud computing the term Instance is synonymous with VM or virtual machine. There are many Instance types that have different specifications to support myriad workloads.

Of course, if you are looking to optimize your cloud cost, Spotinst enables you to reliably run your stateless and stateful workloads on cloud providers’ excess compute capacity, for up to 90% less than on-demand pricing.

AWS offers many different EC2 instance types with instance families that are specially optimized to handle workloads that are oriented for storage, compute, memory or other activities. You can choose whether you want Linux or Windows servers as well.

Amazon’s accelerated computing instance family uses hardware accelerators, or co-processors, to perform functions like graphics processing, or data pattern matching, in a way that is more efficient than software running on CPUs.

For every family of instances, there are also different size instances within the family. For example, the memory optimized family, there is a R5 instance type that has different sizes like r5.large, r5.xlarge, r5.2xlarge, r5.4xlarge and on to r5.16xlarge.

In this example, specification like memory will range from 16 GiB to  512 GiB. Other specs include vCPU, storage, network performance and EBS and others.

Amazon has 3 main models for EC2 pricing. On-demand, which is the most expensive. Reserved Instances, which offer much betting pricing in exchange for an upfront commitment, and Spot Instances, which can be 90% less expensive than On-demand.

Microsoft Azure also offers a rich offering of different instance types with their Virtual Machines.

Google Cloud likewise offers many virtual machine instance types on their cloud platform.

Spotinst allows you to run your workloads on all of these cloud providers enabling you to avoid vendor lock-in and achieve a modern, multi-cloud deployment.
