A dynamic workforce needs a flexible solution

On August 31st 2022, Amit and Aditya shared a blog post discussing the Emergence of Cloud Desktops. This struck a chord for me because it tells the story of where we are, how we got here, and where we are going. End-user computing (EUC) is fast evolving with new inventions taking place often.

Some of the latest trends like Hybrid Work are quite challenging where it’s not simply cloud desktops spun up in a hyperscaler’s environment. These VMs are integrated into unique ecosystems that are as varied as business. To start, they must be connected to data sources, have policies applied to bolster security posture, and have the necessary applications installed so employees can be productive in no time. Then there are lifecycle challenges. Evolving demands can lead to tech solution layering, exponentially increasing the “care and feeding” of IT infrastructure. How is an IT team supposed to deliver reliable, performant, secure, and cost-effective solutions without growing the team or working 24×7?

There are occasions where the business situations are challenging and to sustain ongoing growth, skilled manpower needs to be added for operational support. You may be running your business locally from the US but your staff, customers and operations are spread across the globe. Although your remote desktop solution can enable your distributed task force to onboard but there could be non-ideal situations technically where your users can experience latency in accessing the remote desktops from different geographic locations. Such situations lead to business productivity loss and employee dissatisfaction in terms of user experience. Add to that, technologies are getting obsolete faster and need a refresh.

Step 1 – Deploy Spot PC – Our deployments are measured in hours, not days or weeks. Enter some key pieces of information, click GO, and let Spot PC automation handle setting up everything in Azure.

Step 2 – Create additional sites – Your initial deployment site is in Texas with HQ but additional sites for Europe and India are a few clicks away. Choose Azure Regions based on locality and resource type needed. For example, GPU capable VMs are available in specific regions.

Step 3 – Build an image – Spot PC allows creating custom image templates (Image Sets) that are applied to new Azure Virtual Desktop session hosts. Install applications and custom settings on the template and a Spot PC Global Image Set makes that template available in any Spot PC Sites you’ve created.

Step 4 – Create Spot Groups – Spot Groups are Spot PC managed Azure Virtual Desktops. Choose a Site, choose an Image Set, click GO, and Spot PC automation builds the session hosts. They’re customized, optimized, secured, and protected by default.

A matter of hours later and all your users are running Spot PC managed cloud desktops in Azure. Costs are contained, the environment is secured, and the backend is managed by a reliable partner. Additions or changes are simple through the admin interface and the Spot PC team is ready for any questions you may have.
